Ingredients:

  • 8 ounces lo mein noodles (or spaghetti)
  • 1 pound beef flank steak, thinly sliced against the grain
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil, divided
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup bell peppers, sliced (any color)
  • 1 cup snap peas or snow peas
  • 1 cup carrots, julienned
  • 3 green onions, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
  • 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce (optional)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Sesame seeds, for garnish (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Cook the Noodles: Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the lo mein noodles and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  2. Marinate the Beef: In a medium bowl, combine the sliced beef with 2 tablespoons of soy sauce and cornstarch. Toss to coat and let it marinate for about 15 minutes.
  3. Stir-Fry the Beef: In a large skillet or wok, heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Add the marinated beef in a single layer and cook for 2-3 minutes until browned. Remove the beef from the pan and set aside.
  4. Sauté the Vegetables: In the same skillet, add the remaining tablespoon of oil. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant. Then, add the bell peppers, snap peas, and carrots. Stir-fry for about 3-4 minutes until the vegetables are tender-crisp.
  5. Combine and Finish: Return the cooked beef to the skillet, along with the cooked noodles, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce (if using), and chopped green onions. Toss everything together, ensuring the noodles are well-coated with the sauce. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  6. Serve: Divide the Beef Lo Mein among plates or bowls. Garnish with sesame seeds if desired, and enjoy this delicious homemade dish!
