Teriyaki Steak

Teriyaki Steak is a savory and sweet dish that brings the perfect balance of soy, ginger, garlic, and honey to tender cuts of beef. Originating from Japanese cuisine, this steak is marinated to infuse the rich flavors deep into the meat, then grilled or pan-seared to caramelize the sauce into a mouthwatering glaze. Ideal for weeknight dinners or special occasions, Teriyaki Steak is simple to prepare and pairs wonderfully with steamed rice, sautéed vegetables, or a fresh salad. This recipe will guide you to achieve a juicy and flavorful steak with minimal effort.

Ingredients:

  • 4 steak cuts (sirloin, ribeye, or flank)
  • ½ cup soy sauce
  • ¼ cup honey or brown sugar
  • ¼ cup mirin or rice vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons sesame oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, minced
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds (optional)
  • Sliced green onions for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Marinade: In a bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, honey, mirin, sesame oil, garlic, and ginger. Reserve ¼ cup of the marinade for later.
  2. Marinate the Steak: Place the steaks in a shallow dish or resealable plastic bag and pour the marinade over them. Let the steaks marinate in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes, or up to 4 hours for more intense flavor.
  3. Cook the Steak:
    • If grilling: Preheat the grill to medium-high heat. Grill the steaks for about 4-6 minutes on each side, depending on your preferred doneness.
    • If pan-searing: Heat a large skillet or grill pan over medium-high heat. Sear the steaks for 4-5 minutes on each side until they are cooked to your liking.
  4. Thicken the Reserved Marinade: While the steaks cook, mix the cornstarch and water together in a small bowl to create a slurry. Pour the reserved marinade into a small saucepan and heat over medium heat. Stir in the slurry and cook until the sauce thickens into a glaze, about 2-3 minutes.
  5. Serve: Once the steaks are cooked, let them rest for 5 minutes. Drizzle the thickened teriyaki sauce over the steaks and sprinkle with sesame seeds and green onions.
  6. Enjoy: Serve with rice or vegetables, and enjoy your delicious Teriyaki Steak!
