Sweet And Sour Brisket

Sweet and Sour Brisket is a tender, flavorful dish that brings together the richness of slow-cooked beef with a tangy, sweet sauce. The brisket becomes melt-in-your-mouth tender as it braises in a blend of tomatoes, vinegar, brown sugar, and onions, creating a perfect balance of flavors. This dish is ideal for holidays or special family dinners, where its bold and comforting taste can shine. The sauce, both savory and sweet, pairs beautifully with the beef, making every bite irresistible. Serve it with mashed potatoes or roasted vegetables to complete the meal.

Sweet and Sour Brisket Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 3-4 lbs beef brisket
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 large onions, sliced
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 325°F (160°C).
  2. Season the Brisket: Pat the brisket dry with paper towels, then season generously with salt and pepper.
  3. Sear the Brisket: Heat olive oil in a large oven-safe pot or Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Add the brisket and sear on both sides until browned, about 4-5 minutes per side. Remove the brisket from the pot and set aside.
  4. Cook the Onions and Garlic: In the same pot, reduce the heat to medium and add the sliced onions. Cook until softened and golden, about 5-7 minutes. Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute.
  5. Make the Sweet and Sour Sauce: Stir in the tomato sauce, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, paprika, and ground cinnamon (if using). Bring the mixture to a simmer, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the pot.
  6. Braise the Brisket: Return the seared brisket to the pot, spooning some of the sauce over the top. Cover the pot with a lid or tightly with foil and transfer to the preheated oven. Braise for 3-4 hours, or until the brisket is fork-tender.
  7. Rest and Slice: Once done, remove the brisket from the oven and let it rest for 10-15 minutes before slicing against the grain.
  8. Serve: Serve the sliced brisket with the sweet and sour sauce poured over the top. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired.

Enjoy this hearty and flavorful Sweet and Sour Brisket for a memorable meal with family and friends!
