Stuffed Calamari Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound calamari tubes, cleaned
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1/4 cup parsley, chopped
  • 1/4 cup cooked shrimp or sausage, finely chopped (optional)
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a bowl, combine the breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, minced garlic, parsley, chopped shrimp or sausage (if using), beaten egg, lemon juice, salt, and pepper. Mix well to form the stuffing.
  3. Stuff each calamari tube with the breadcrumb mixture, being careful not to overfill. Secure the ends with toothpicks.
  4. Heat olive oil in an oven-safe skillet over medium heat. Add the stuffed calamari and cook for 3–4 minutes on each side until lightly browned.
  5. Add the diced tomatoes, oregano, and red pepper flakes (if using) to the skillet. Stir gently to combine with the calamari.
  6. Transfer the skillet to the preheated oven and bake for 20–25 minutes, until the calamari is tender and the tomato sauce is bubbling.
  7. Remove from the oven, discard the toothpicks, and serve the stuffed calamari with the tomato sauce.
