Spicy Beef Salad

This Spicy Beef Salad is a refreshing yet fiery dish that balances the tender, juicy flavors of seared beef with the crispness of fresh vegetables and the zing of a spicy, tangy dressing. Inspired by Thai cuisine, this salad combines bold flavors like chili, lime, garlic, and herbs, making it perfect for those who enjoy a kick in their meals. The heat from the spices, the freshness of the mint and cilantro, and the crunch of the vegetables create a harmonious and satisfying salad that can be enjoyed as a light main dish or a flavorful appetizer.

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb (450 g) beef sirloin or flank steak
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 cup cherry tomatoes, halved
  • 1 cucumber, thinly sliced
  • 1 red onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 red bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup mixed salad greens
  • ¼ cup fresh mint leaves
  • ¼ cup fresh cilantro leaves
Dressing:
  • 3 tablespoons lime juice
  • 2 tablespoons fish sauce
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1-2 red Thai chilies, finely chopped (adjust for spice level)
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Beef: Season the beef steak with salt and pepper. Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Sear the beef for about 4-5 minutes on each side for medium-rare, or longer if desired. Remove from the heat and let it rest for 5 minutes before slicing thinly against the grain.
  2. Make the Dressing: In a small bowl, whisk together lime juice, fish sauce, soy sauce, sugar, minced garlic, and chopped chilies. Add sesame oil if you like a nutty flavor. Adjust the seasoning to taste, adding more lime juice or fish sauce as needed.
  3. Prepare the Salad: In a large salad bowl, combine the cherry tomatoes, cucumber, red onion, red bell pepper, and mixed salad greens. Add the fresh mint and cilantro leaves.
  4. Assemble the Salad: Add the sliced beef to the salad. Pour the dressing over the salad and toss gently to combine, ensuring the beef and vegetables are evenly coated.
  5. Serve: Plate the salad immediately, garnishing with additional mint or cilantro if desired. Enjoy the burst of spicy, tangy, and savory flavors!

This Spicy Beef Salad is best served fresh, but it can be stored in the refrigerator for up to a day. The flavors will continue to meld, making it even more delicious.
