Perfect for busy weeknights or a cozy weekend dinner, this slow cooker version requires minimal effort while delivering maximum flavor. Serve over mashed potatoes, rice, or noodles for a classic, comforting meal that will please the whole family.

Ingredients

For the patties:

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/3 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste

For the gravy:

  • 1 onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup mushrooms, sliced
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tbsp ketchup
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch mixed with 2 tbsp water (for thickening)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the patties: In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined. Shape the mixture into 4-6 patties.
  2. Sear the patties (optional): For extra flavor, heat a skillet over medium heat and sear the patties for 2-3 minutes on each side until browned. This step adds flavor but can be skipped for convenience.
  3. Assemble in the slow cooker: Place the sliced onions and mushrooms in the bottom of the slow cooker. Lay the beef patties on top.
  4. Make the gravy: In a bowl, whisk together the beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, and ketchup. Pour the mixture over the patties.
  5. Cook: Cover and cook on low for 5-6 hours, or on high for 3-4 hours, until the patties are tender and fully cooked.
  6. Thicken the gravy: About 30 minutes before serving, stir the cornstarch slurry into the slow cooker to thicken the gravy. Let it cook for another 30 minutes until the gravy thickens.
  7. Serve: Garnish with fresh parsley if desired, and serve the Salisbury steaks with the rich gravy over mashed potatoes, rice, or noodles.
