Scalloped Potatoes and Ham is a classic comfort food dish that combines tender, thinly sliced potatoes with savory ham, all baked in a rich and creamy sauce. Ingredients:

  • 4 cups thinly sliced potatoes (Yukon Gold or Russet)
  • 2 cups cooked ham, diced
  • 3 tbsp butter
  • 3 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 ½ cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 small onion, finely diced
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp paprika (optional)
  • Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the diced onion and cook until softened, about 4 minutes.
  3. Stir in the flour to make a roux, cooking for 1-2 minutes. Gradually whisk in the milk, stirring constantly until the mixture thickens and becomes smooth.
  4. Add the garlic powder, salt, pepper, and half of the shredded cheese to the sauce, stirring until the cheese is fully melted.
  5. Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the prepared baking dish, then top with half of the diced ham. Pour half of the cheese sauce over the ham and potatoes. Repeat the layers with the remaining potatoes, ham, and sauce.
  6. Sprinkle the remaining shredded cheese over the top and add a dash of paprika if desired.
  7. Cover the dish with foil and bake for 45 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the top is golden and the potatoes are tender.
