Queso Blanco

Queso Blanco is a smooth and creamy white cheese dip that’s perfect for parties, game nights, or as an appetizer. This beloved Mexican-inspired dip is made with melted white cheese, milk, and a touch of jalapeños or green chilies for a subtle kick of heat. Rich, cheesy, and incredibly easy to make, queso blanco is an excellent accompaniment to tortilla chips, veggies, or even drizzled over tacos and nachos. Its velvety texture and mild spice make it a crowd-pleasing favorite that can be enjoyed with nearly any meal or snack.

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb white American cheese, cubed (or a mix of white cheddar and Monterey Jack)
  • ½ cup milk (more if needed for thinning)
  • 1 can (4 oz) diced green chilies
  • 1 jalapeño, diced (optional for extra heat)
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp onion powder
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh cilantro, chopped (optional for garnish)
  • Tortilla chips for serving

Instructions:

  1. In a medium saucepan over low heat, add the cubed cheese and milk. Stir frequently to prevent the cheese from burning as it melts.
  2. Once the cheese is mostly melted, stir in the diced green chilies, jalapeño (if using), garlic powder, onion powder, and salt.
  3. Continue stirring until the cheese is completely melted and smooth. If the queso is too thick, add more milk, one tablespoon at a time, until you reach the desired consistency.
  4. Remove from heat and pour the queso blanco into a serving bowl. Garnish with fresh cilantro if desired.
  5. Serve immediately with tortilla chips, and enjoy your warm and creamy queso blanco!
