Pork Chops and Applesauce is a classic dish that brings together the savory and slightly sweet elements in a way that’s comforting and familiar. The tender pork chops are perfectly seasoned and seared to achieve a crisp, golden exterior while remaining juicy inside. Complemented with a homemade applesauce that is both tart and sweet, this dish achieves a harmonious balance that is both satisfying and wholesome. Ideal for a cozy family dinner, this meal pairs wonderfully with roasted vegetables or a side of mashed potatoes for a complete and hearty feast.

Ingredients:

For the Pork Chops:

  • 4 bone-in or boneless pork chops (about 1-inch thick)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter

For the Applesauce:

  • 4 medium-sized apples (Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or a mix), peeled, cored, and diced
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 cup water or apple juice
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Pork Chops:
    • Pat the pork chops dry with paper towels. Season both sides generously with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and thyme.
    • In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium-high heat. Add the pork chops and sear for 3-4 minutes on each side, or until a golden crust forms.
    • Lower the heat to medium and add the butter to the skillet. Spoon the melted butter over the chops for added flavor and moisture. Continue cooking until the internal temperature reaches 145°F (63°C), then remove the chops and set them aside to rest.
  2. Make the Applesauce:
    • In a medium saucepan, combine the diced apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and water (or apple juice). Stir to combine.
    • Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat. Cover and cook for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the apples are soft and starting to break down.
    • Once the apples are tender, use a fork or potato masher to mash them to your desired consistency (chunky or smooth). Stir in the lemon juice.
  3. Serve:
    • Arrange the pork chops on a serving platter and generously spoon the warm applesauce over the top. Serve with your favorite sides, such as roasted vegetables or mashed potatoes.

Enjoy the combination of savory pork and sweet applesauce, which makes this dish a comforting favorite for all ages.
