Mini Donuts

Mini Donuts are delightful bite-sized treats that capture the essence of a classic donut in a much smaller package. Perfect for parties, gatherings, or just a fun baking project with kids, these tiny treats are fried until golden and then tossed in sugar, glazed, or topped with sprinkles for a festive touch. Whether serving them at a brunch, as a dessert at a dinner party, or simply enjoying them with your morning coffee, mini donuts are sure to bring a smile to everyone’s face.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup plain yogurt
  • 1 tablespoon melted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Oil for frying
  • For the topping: 1/2 cup granulated sugar, or powdered sugar, or a simple glaze made from 1 cup powdered sugar mixed with 2 tablespoons milk

Directions:

  1. Prepare the Dough:
    • In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and nutmeg. In another bowl, mix the milk, yogurt, melted butter, and vanilla extract. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.
  2. Heat the Oil:
    • Fill a large, deep skillet or saucepan with about 2 inches of oil. Heat over medium-high heat until the oil reaches 350°F (175°C).
  3. Form and Fry the Mini Donuts:
    • While the oil is heating, scoop out small portions of the dough using a teaspoon or a small cookie scoop. Carefully drop the dough balls into the hot oil, working in batches to avoid overcrowding.
    • Fry the mini donuts for about 2-3 minutes, turning once until they are golden brown all around.
  4. Drain and Coat:
    • Remove the donuts from the oil using a slotted spoon and transfer them to a paper towel-lined plate to drain any excess oil.
    • While still warm, roll the mini donuts in granulated sugar, powdered sugar, or dip them into the prepared glaze.
  5. Serve:
    • Serve the mini donuts warm or at room temperature. They are best enjoyed fresh but can be stored in an airtight container for a couple of days.

These mini donuts are not only fun to make but also incredibly delicious to eat. They offer the perfect little bite that combines the joy of homemade donuts with the charm of their miniature size. Enjoy customizing them with your favorite flavors and toppings to create a truly personalized treat.
