Meatballs Arrabbiata

Meatballs Arrabbiata combines tender, juicy meatballs with a spicy and flavorful arrabbiata sauce, making for a dish that’s both comforting and bold. Arrabbiata, meaning “angry” in Italian, refers to the sauce’s spiciness, which comes from red chili flakes paired with rich tomatoes and garlic. The meatballs are seasoned to perfection and simmered in this robust sauce, resulting in a meal that’s full of character. This dish is perfect for those who enjoy a little heat and can be served with pasta, crusty bread, or on its own for a satisfying and flavorful meal.

Ingredients:

For the meatballs:

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • ½ lb ground pork
  • ½ cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 1 tbsp olive oil (for frying)

For the arrabbiata sauce:

  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp red chili flakes (adjust to taste)
  • 1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh basil for garnish (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Make the meatballs: In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, egg, Parmesan cheese, minced garlic, parsley, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined. Roll the mixture into small meatballs, about 1-2 inches in diameter.
  2. Cook the meatballs: Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the meatballs and cook, turning occasionally, until they are browned on all sides and cooked through, about 8-10 minutes. Remove the meatballs from the skillet and set aside.
  3. Prepare the arrabbiata sauce: In the same skillet, add 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and red chili flakes, and sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant. Stir in the crushed tomatoes and oregano, and season with salt and pepper. Let the sauce simmer for 10-15 minutes to allow the flavors to develop.
  4. Simmer the meatballs: Return the meatballs to the skillet with the sauce. Simmer the meatballs in the arrabbiata sauce for an additional 10 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.
  5. Serve: Garnish with fresh basil, and serve your Meatballs Arrabbiata over pasta, with crusty bread, or on their own.

Enjoy this spicy and savory dish that’s perfect for those who love bold flavors with a bit of heat!
