Ingredients

Filling:

  • 6 medium apples, peeled, cored, and sliced (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp are great options)
  • 1/4 cup pure maple syrup
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tsp lemon juice

Topping:

  • 3/4 cup old-fashioned oats
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed
  • 1/4 cup chopped pecans (optional for added crunch)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 9×9-inch baking dish.
  2. Prepare the filling: In a large mixing bowl, toss the sliced apples with maple syrup, cinnamon, and lemon juice until evenly coated. Spread the apples evenly in the prepared baking dish.
  3. Make the topping: In another bowl, mix together the oats, flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Add the cold butter cubes and, using your fingers or a pastry cutter, work the butter into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in pecans, if using.
  4. Assemble and bake: Sprinkle the topping evenly over the apples. Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the topping is golden and the apples are tender.
  5. Serve: Allow to cool for a few minutes before serving warm. Enjoy with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for an extra treat!

This Maple Apple Crisp is best enjoyed fresh but can be stored in the refrigerator for up to three days and reheated gently before serving.
