Italian Style Meatballs

Italian-Style Meatballs are tender, flavorful, and packed with classic Italian herbs, making them the perfect addition to any pasta dish or enjoyed on their own with a side of marinara sauce. Made with a blend of ground beef, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, garlic, and Italian seasonings, these meatballs are juicy and savory with every bite. Simmered in a rich tomato sauce, they soak up all the flavors and become even more delicious. Serve them over spaghetti, in a sub sandwich, or as an appetizer at your next gathering for an authentic Italian experience.

Ingredients:

For the Meatballs:

  • 1 lb ground beef (or a mix of beef and pork)
  • ½ cup breadcrumbs
  • ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper

For the Sauce:

  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh basil or parsley for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Meatballs: In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, egg, garlic, parsley, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Mix until just combined; avoid over-mixing to keep the meatballs tender.
  2. Shape the Meatballs: Using your hands, form the mixture into 1-inch meatballs and place them on a baking sheet.
  3. Brown the Meatballs: In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the meatballs in batches, cooking them for 2-3 minutes per side until browned. Remove and set aside.
  4. Make the Sauce: In the same skillet, add the chopped onion and cook for 5 minutes until softened. Add the garlic and cook for an additional minute. Pour in the crushed tomatoes, basil, oregano, salt, and pepper. Stir to combine, then let the sauce simmer for 10 minutes.
  5. Simmer the Meatballs: Return the browned meatballs to the skillet with the sauce. Cover and let simmer for 20-25 minutes, allowing the meatballs to cook through and absorb the flavors of the sauce.
  6. Serve: Garnish with fresh basil or parsley and serve hot over pasta, with crusty bread, or on their own.

Enjoy these classic Italian-Style Meatballs, rich in flavor and perfect for any Italian-inspired meal!
