Ingredients:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • ½ cup milk
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ cup packed brown sugar
  • ¼ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 ¼ cups boiling water

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8×8-inch baking dish.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, 2 tablespoons cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Add the milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Stir until well combined and smooth. Spread the batter evenly into the prepared baking dish.
  4. In a small bowl, mix the brown sugar and ¼ cup cocoa powder together. Sprinkle this mixture evenly over the batter.
  5. Slowly pour the boiling water over the top of the cake. Do not stir.
  6. Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the cake is set on top but still slightly jiggly beneath. The cake will bake on top, while a fudge sauce forms underneath.
