Gluten Free Flour Tortillas

Gluten-Free Flour Tortillas are a perfect solution for those who want to enjoy soft, pliable tortillas without gluten. These homemade tortillas are easy to make and versatile, ideal for tacos, burritos, or wraps. The texture is soft yet sturdy, making them perfect for holding your favorite fillings. With just a few simple ingredients, you can create delicious gluten-free tortillas that rival their wheat-based counterparts, allowing you to enjoy all your favorite dishes without compromise.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups gluten-free all-purpose flour (with xanthan gum included)
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil or melted coconut oil
  • 3/4 cup warm water (or more as needed)

Instructions:

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the gluten-free flour, baking powder, and salt.
  2. Add the oil to the dry ingredients and mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Gradually add the warm water, stirring until a dough forms. If the dough is too dry, add more water, 1 tablespoon at a time, until it becomes smooth and slightly sticky.
  4. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for a few minutes until it is soft and pliable.
  5. Divide the dough into 8 equal portions and roll each piece into a ball.
  6. On a lightly floured surface, roll out each ball of dough into a thin, round tortilla, about 1/8 inch thick.
  7. Heat a dry skillet over medium heat. Cook each tortilla for 1-2 minutes on each side, or until lightly golden and puffed. Keep the tortillas warm in a towel as you cook the rest.
  8. Serve immediately with your favorite fillings, or store in an airtight container for later use. Enjoy!
