Gluten-Free Dinner Rolls

Gluten-free dinner rolls are a soft, fluffy, and delicious alternative to traditional rolls, perfect for those avoiding gluten without sacrificing flavor or texture. These rolls are slightly golden on the outside with a tender and airy interior, making them ideal for pairing with soups, stews, or holiday meals. Easy to make and versatile, this recipe ensures that everyone at the table can enjoy fresh, homemade bread.

Ingredients:

  • 2 ¼ teaspoons (1 packet) instant yeast
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 cup warm milk (or plant-based milk, about 110°F/45°C)
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted (or dairy-free alternative)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 ½ cups gluten-free all-purpose flour (with xanthan gum included)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil or melted butter (for brushing)

Instructions:

  1. Activate the Yeast:
In a small bowl, combine the warm milk, yeast, and sugar. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy. This step ensures the yeast is active and ready to work.
  2. Mix the Dough:
In a large mixing bowl, combine the gluten-free flour and salt. In another bowl, whisk together the eggs, melted butter, and apple cider vinegar. Pour the wet ingredients and the activated yeast mixture into the flour and mix until a sticky dough forms. You can use a stand mixer with a paddle attachment for this step for easier mixing.
  3. Let the Dough Rise:
Cover the bowl with plastic wrap or a clean kitchen towel and let the dough rise in a warm, draft-free spot for 45–60 minutes, or until it has doubled in size.
  4. Shape the Rolls:
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish or a large round cake pan. With oiled or floured hands, divide the dough into 10–12 equal portions and shape them into balls. Place the dough balls in the prepared dish, leaving a little space between them for rising.
  5. Second Rise:
Cover the dish loosely with plastic wrap and let the rolls rise again for about 20 minutes.
  6. Bake the Rolls:
Brush the tops of the rolls with olive oil or melted butter. Bake in the preheated oven for 20–25 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown and the rolls sound hollow when tapped.
  7. Cool and Serve:
Allow the rolls to cool slightly before serving warm. For extra flavor, brush with additional butter and sprinkle with fresh herbs like parsley or rosemary if desired.

These gluten-free dinner rolls are light, fluffy, and perfect for any occasion—proof that gluten-free baking can be just as delightful as traditional bread!
