GERMAN-STYLE KIELBASA AND NOODLES

German-Style Kielbasa and Noodles is a comforting and hearty dish that combines the smoky flavor of kielbasa with tender egg noodles, all tossed in a creamy, tangy sauce with sautéed onions and cabbage. This dish is reminiscent of traditional German flavors and makes for a satisfying weeknight dinner that’s both easy to prepare and full of flavor.

Ingredients:

  • 12 ounces egg noodles
  • 1 pound kielbasa, sliced into 1/4-inch rounds
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 medium head of green cabbage, thinly sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon caraway seeds (optional)
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • Fresh parsley, chopped, for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Cook the Noodles:
    • Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the egg noodles and cook according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain the noodles and set them aside.
  2. Cook the Kielbasa:
    • While the noodles are cooking, heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the sliced kielbasa and cook for 5-7 minutes, turning occasionally, until the kielbasa is browned and heated through. Remove the kielbasa from the skillet and set it aside.
  3. Sauté the Onions and Cabbage:
    • In the same skillet, add the butter and let it melt over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and cook for 4-5 minutes, until they begin to soften and turn golden. Add the sliced cabbage and caraway seeds (if using), and continue to sauté for another 5-7 minutes, until the cabbage is tender and slightly caramelized.
  4. Add Garlic and Combine:
    • Add the minced garlic to the skillet and cook for 1 minute, until fragrant. Return the cooked kielbasa to the skillet and toss everything together.
  5. Make the Sauce:
    • In a small bowl, whisk together the sour cream, Dijon mustard, and apple cider vinegar. Pour this mixture over the kielbasa and cabbage in the skillet, stirring to combine. Cook for another 2-3 minutes, until the sauce is heated through and coats the ingredients evenly.
  6. Combine with Noodles:
    • Add the cooked egg noodles to the skillet, tossing everything together until the noodles are well coated with the sauce. Season with salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste.
  7. Serve:
    • Serve the German-Style Kielbasa and Noodles hot, garnished with chopped fresh parsley.

Enjoy this German-inspired dish as a cozy, flavorful meal that’s perfect for any night of the week!
