Ingredients

  • For the Dough:
    • 3 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
    • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
    • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
    • 1/2 teaspoon salt
    • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
    • 1/2 cup eggnog, warmed to about 110°F
    • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
    • 1/4 cup warm water
    • 1 large egg
  • For the Filling:
    • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
    • 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
    • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
    • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
  • For the Eggnog Glaze:
    • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
    • 2-3 tablespoons eggnog
    • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
    • Pinch of ground nutmeg or cinnamon (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough:
In a large bowl, mix together 2 cups of flour, sugar, yeast, salt, and nutmeg. In a separate bowl, combine the warm eggnog, melted butter, warm water, and egg. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until well combined.
  2. Knead the Dough:
Gradually add the remaining flour, 1/4 cup at a time, until the dough forms a soft ball. Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  3. Make the Filling:
In a small bowl, mix together the brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Set aside.
  4. Roll the Dough:
Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out on a floured surface into a rectangle about 12×15 inches. Spread the softened butter evenly over the dough, then sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar filling on top.
  5. Roll and Slice:
Starting from the long edge, carefully roll the dough tightly into a log. Cut the log into 12 equal pieces and place them in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish. Cover with plastic wrap and let them rise again for about 30-45 minutes.
  6. Bake the Rolls:
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the cinnamon rolls for 20-25 minutes, or until they are golden brown. Remove from the oven and let them cool slightly.
  7. Prepare the Glaze:
In a medium bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, eggnog, vanilla extract, and a pinch of nutmeg or cinnamon, if desired, until smooth.
  8. Glaze and Serve:
Drizzle the eggnog glaze over the warm cinnamon rolls and serve immediately.

These Eggnog Cinnamon Rolls are not only a festive delight but also a delicious way to celebrate the holiday season with family and friends. Enjoy them fresh from the oven with a cup of coffee or tea for the ultimate cozy experience!
