Easter Ham

Easter Ham is a quintessential holiday dish that graces many tables during springtime celebrations. This recipe features a succulent, juicy ham glazed with a sweet and tangy mixture of brown sugar, honey, and Dijon mustard, complemented by the subtle warmth of cloves and the brightness of orange juice. Baked to perfection, the ham develops a beautiful caramelized crust that adds a delightful contrast to the tender meat inside. This festive centerpiece is not only easy to prepare but also feeds a crowd, making it the perfect choice for a joyful Easter feast with family and friends.

Ingredients:

  • 1 fully cooked, bone-in ham (8-10 lbs)
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 cup orange juice
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)
  • Whole cloves (optional, for studding the ham)
  • Pineapple rings and maraschino cherries (optional, for garnish)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Ham:
    • Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C).
    • Place the ham on a rack in a large roasting pan. If the ham has a thick layer of fat, score the surface in a diamond pattern, making shallow cuts about 1/4 inch deep.
    • If desired, stud the intersections of the cuts with whole cloves.
  2. Make the Glaze:
    • In a small saucepan, combine the brown sugar, honey, Dijon mustard, orange juice, ground cloves, and cinnamon (if using).
    • Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat, stirring until the sugar is dissolved and the glaze is smooth. Remove from heat.
  3. Bake the Ham:
    • Brush the ham generously with the glaze, making sure to get it into the scored cuts.
    • Cover the ham loosely with aluminum foil and bake for 1 1/2 to 2 hours (about 15 minutes per pound), basting with the glaze every 30 minutes.
    • During the last 30 minutes of baking, remove the foil to allow the ham to develop a caramelized crust.
  4. Optional Garnish:
    • If using pineapple rings and maraschino cherries, arrange them on the ham during the last 30 minutes of baking, securing them with toothpicks if necessary. Continue to baste with the glaze.
  5. Rest and Serve:
    • Once the ham is fully heated through and the glaze is caramelized, remove it from the oven and let it rest for 10-15 minutes before carving.
    • Slice and serve the ham with the remaining glaze drizzled over the top.

Enjoy your Easter Ham, a delicious and festive centerpiece that’s sure to make your holiday meal unforgettable!
