  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional for heat)
  • 1/2 cup white wine or beer (dry white wine works well)
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon fish sauce (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lime juice
  • 1/4 cup chicken or vegetable broth
  • Fresh cilantro or parsley, chopped (for garnish)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Lime wedges (for serving)

Instructions:

  1. Sauté the aromatics:
    • Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté for 3-4 minutes until softened. Stir in the minced garlic and red pepper flakes (if using), cooking for another 1-2 minutes until fragrant.

  3. Deglaze with wine or beer:

  4. Make the sauce:

  5. Finish the dish:
    • Return the shrimp to the skillet and toss them in the sauce to coat. Cook for another minute or two until the shrimp are fully cooked through and the sauce is heated. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  6. Serve:
    • Garnish the drunken shrimp with fresh cilantro or parsley and serve with lime wedges on the side. Enjoy with crusty bread, rice, or noodles to soak up the flavorful sauce.
