Ingredients:

For the crust:

  • 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water (110°F)

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour

  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 1/2 cups Italian sausage, cooked and crumbled

  • 1/2 cup sliced mushrooms (optional)

For the sauce:

  • 1 (28 oz) can crushed tomatoes
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 tbsp olive oil

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the dough: In a large mixing bowl, dissolve the yeast and sugar in warm water. Let sit for 5-10 minutes, until foamy. Stir in the melted butter, olive oil, and salt. Gradually add the flour, mixing until a soft dough forms. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 5 minutes, until smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  2. Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  3. Prepare the sauce: In a saucepan, heat 1 tbsp of olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for 1 minute. Stir in the crushed tomatoes, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 15-20 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
  4. Assemble the pizza: Punch down the dough and divide it in half.
