CRANBERRY PORT SAUCE

Cranberry Port Sauce is a rich and flavorful accompaniment that’s perfect for holiday meals, especially with roasted turkey or ham. The combination of tart cranberries, sweet port wine, and warm spices creates a deeply satisfying sauce that can elevate any festive dish. It’s easy to make and adds a gourmet touch to your holiday table.

Ingredients:

  • 12 oz fresh or frozen cranberries
  • 1/2 cup port wine
  • 1/2 cup orange juice
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon orange zest
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves (optional)
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg (optional)
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions:

  1. Combine the ingredients:
    • In a medium saucepan, combine the cranberries, port wine, orange juice, granulated sugar, brown sugar, orange zest, cinnamon stick, cloves (if using), nutmeg (if using), and a pinch of salt.
  2. Cook the sauce:
    • Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally to dissolve the sugars. Cook for 10-15 minutes, or until the cranberries burst and the sauce thickens. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.
  3. Adjust sweetness and consistency:
    • Taste the sauce and adjust the sweetness by adding more sugar if necessary. If the sauce is too thick, you can thin it out with a little extra orange juice or water.
  4. Cool and serve:
    • Remove the sauce from heat and discard the cinnamon stick. Let the sauce cool slightly before serving, or refrigerate until ready to use. The sauce will thicken further as it cools.

This Cranberry Port Sauce is a deliciously sweet and tangy addition to any holiday feast, adding a touch of elegance and flavor to your meal!
