Crab Imperial

Crab Imperial is a classic and elegant seafood dish that highlights the delicate, sweet flavor of fresh crab meat. This rich and creamy dish is made by mixing lump crab meat with a blend of mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, lemon juice, and savory seasonings, then baking it to perfection with a golden breadcrumb or Parmesan topping. Crab Imperial is often served as a luxurious appetizer or as a main course alongside fresh vegetables or salad. Simple to prepare yet impressively delicious, this dish is perfect for special occasions or whenever you want to enjoy the fresh flavors of the sea.

  • 1 tsp Old Bay seasoning
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 egg, lightly beaten
  • 1/4 cup green bell pepper, finely chopped
  • 1/4 cup red bell pepper, finely chopped
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (for topping)

  2. Prepare the Crab Mixture:
    • In a large mixing bowl, gently combine the crab meat, mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, lemon juice, Old Bay seasoning, Worcestershire sauce, beaten egg, green and red bell peppers, salt, and black pepper. Be careful not to break up the crab meat too much.
  3. Assemble the Dish:
    • Spoon the crab mixture into the prepared baking dish or divide it evenly among ramekins. Top with grated Parmesan cheese and breadcrumbs, if using. Drizzle melted butter over the top for added richness.
  4. Bake the Crab Imperial:
    • Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the crab mixture is heated through.
  5. Serve:
    • Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving. Garnish with fresh parsley and lemon wedges, if desired. Serve Crab Imperial as an appetizer or main dish, with crackers, bread, or a side salad.
