Ingredients:

For the scones:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 6 tablespoons cold unsalted butter, cubed
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the cinnamon sugar topping:

  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

For the glaze (optional):

  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tablespoon milk or cream
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Make the dough: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon. Add the cold butter cubes and use a pastry cutter or your fingers to work the butter into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Add the wet ingredients: In a small bowl, whisk together the heavy cream, egg, and vanilla extract. Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Do not overmix.
  4. Shape the scones: Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and gently knead it a few times. Pat the dough into a 1-inch-thick circle and cut it into 8 wedges. Transfer the wedges to the prepared baking sheet.
  5. Cinnamon sugar topping: In a small bowl, mix the sugar and cinnamon together. Sprinkle the cinnamon sugar over the tops of the scones.
  6. Bake: Bake the scones for 15-18 minutes, or until they are golden brown and firm to the touch. Let them cool slightly.
  7. Make the glaze (optional): In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and cinnamon until smooth. Drizzle the glaze over the cooled scones.

These Cinnamon Scones are perfectly spiced, buttery, and irresistible, making them a delicious addition to your breakfast or tea-time routine!
