Ingredients

For the crust:

  • 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1-2 tbsp cold water (as needed)

For the filling:

  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 7 oz dark chocolate, chopped
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • Zest of 1 orange
  • 2 tbsp orange juice
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

For garnish:

  • Orange zest or candied orange slices (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the crust: In a food processor, pulse the flour, powdered sugar, and cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Add the egg yolk and pulse again until combined. Gradually add cold water, one tablespoon at a time, until the dough comes together. Form the dough into a disk, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
  2. Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Roll out the chilled dough on a floured surface and press it into a 9-inch tart pan. Trim the edges and prick the bottom with a fork. Line with parchment paper and fill with pie weights or dried beans. Bake for 15 minutes, remove the weights, and bake for another 5-7 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown. Let cool completely.
  3. Make the filling: In a small saucepan, heat the heavy cream over medium heat until it just begins to simmer. Remove from heat and add the chopped dark chocolate, butter, orange zest, orange juice, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt. Let it sit for a few minutes, then stir until the mixture is smooth and glossy.
  4. Assemble the tart: Pour the chocolate filling into the cooled tart shell and smooth the top with a spatula. Refrigerate for at least 2-3 hours, or until the filling is set.
  5. Garnish and serve: Garnish with additional orange zest or candied orange slices if desired. Slice and serve chilled.

This Chocolate Orange Tart is a stunning dessert that perfectly balances rich, dark chocolate with refreshing citrus, making it a deliciously indulgent treat for any occasion!
