Chocolate Covered Pretzel Rods

Chocolate-covered pretzel rods are the perfect combination of sweet and salty, making them a favorite treat for any occasion. Whether you’re hosting a party, celebrating a holiday, or just craving a quick homemade snack, these pretzels are easy to make and endlessly customizable. The crisp crunch of the pretzel is beautifully balanced by the smooth, rich chocolate coating, and the toppings—ranging from sprinkles to crushed nuts—add texture and a pop of flavor. These treats are also great for gifting, as they can be dressed up with colored chocolate or wrapped individually for a festive presentation.

Ingredients:

  • 1 bag (12 oz) pretzel rods
  • 12 oz semi-sweet or milk chocolate chips (or chocolate melting wafers)
  • 6 oz white chocolate chips (optional, for drizzle or coating)
  • Assorted toppings, such as:
    • Sprinkles
    • Crushed nuts
    • Mini chocolate chips
    • Crushed candy canes
    • Coconut flakes

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Workspace:
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or wax paper. Set out your toppings in small bowls for easy access.
  2. Melt the Chocolate:
Place the semi-sweet or milk chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave in 20-second intervals, stirring between each, until the chocolate is smooth and fully melted. If using white chocolate for a drizzle or second coating, melt it separately in the same manner.
  3. Dip the Pretzel Rods:
Hold a pretzel rod by one end and dip it into the melted chocolate, coating about two-thirds of the rod. Use a spoon to help evenly coat the pretzel if needed. Gently shake off excess chocolate.
  4. Add Toppings:
Immediately sprinkle your chosen toppings over the chocolate before it sets. Rotate the pretzel to ensure even coverage.
  5. Set the Pretzels:
Place the coated pretzel rods on the prepared baking sheet. Repeat the process with the remaining pretzels. If using white chocolate for a drizzle, use a fork or piping bag to drizzle it over the pretzels after the first coating has set slightly.
  6. Cool and Serve:
Let the pretzels cool and harden completely. You can speed up the process by placing the baking sheet in the refrigerator for 10–15 minutes.
  7. Store or Serve:
Once set, transfer the pretzels to an airtight container or wrap them individually in treat bags for gifting. Enjoy within a week for the best taste and texture!

Tips:

  • Experiment with colored candy melts to match themes or holidays.
  • For a smoother finish, use chocolate melting wafers or add a teaspoon of coconut oil to the chocolate before melting.
  • Be creative with your toppings! The possibilities are endless.
