Ingredients:

  • 2 pounds chicken spareribs (or bone-in chicken thighs, cut into smaller pieces)
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon grated ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon Chinese five-spice powder
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds (for garnish)
  • Chopped green onions (for garnish)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the marinade: In a large bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, honey, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, garlic, ginger, Chinese five-spice powder, brown sugar, and black pepper.
  2. Marinate the chicken: Add the chicken spareribs to the marinade, making sure each piece is well coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or overnight for the best flavor.
  3. Preheat the oven or grill: If baking, preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). If grilling, preheat the grill to medium heat.
  4. Cook the chicken:
    • For the oven: Place the marinated chicken spareribs on a baking sheet lined with foil or parchment paper. Bake for 35-40 minutes, turning halfway through, until the chicken is cooked through and the skin is golden and slightly caramelized.
    • For the grill: Grill the chicken spareribs for about 20-25 minutes, turning occasionally, until they are fully cooked and have a nice char.
  5. Garnish and serve: Remove the chicken spareribs from the oven or grill and let them rest for a few minutes. Sprinkle with sesame seeds and chopped green onions before serving.

Enjoy these succulent Chicken Spareribs as a main dish or appetizer, paired with rice, veggies, or your favorite dipping sauces!
