Chicken Chapli Kababs

Chicken Chapli Kababs are a popular Pakistani street food known for their unique blend of spices and crispy texture. Originating from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa region, these kababs are traditionally made with minced meat, but this chicken version offers a lighter yet equally delicious alternative. The kababs are packed with flavors from a mixture of spices, fresh herbs, and pomegranate seeds, giving them a tangy and savory taste. Perfect for a quick snack or a satisfying meal, Chicken Chapli Kababs are often served with naan, chutney, or a side of yogurt for a refreshing complement.

Ingredients

  • 500g minced chicken
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 tomatoes, finely chopped
  • 2 green chilies, finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons fresh cilantro, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons fresh mint leaves, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons cornmeal or gram flour
  • 2 tablespoons pomegranate seeds (anardana)
  • 1 egg
  • Oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Mixture: In a large mixing bowl, combine minced chicken, chopped onion, tomatoes, green chilies, cilantro, mint leaves, and ginger-garlic paste. Mix well.
  2. Add Spices: Add red chili powder, coriander powder, cumin seeds, garam masala, and salt to the mixture. Mix until the spices are evenly distributed.
  3. Bind the Mixture: Add cornmeal or gram flour, pomegranate seeds, and egg to the mixture. Mix thoroughly to combine all ingredients and form a cohesive mixture.
  4. Shape the Kababs: Divide the mixture into equal portions and shape them into flat, round patties about ½ inch thick.
  5. Fry the Kababs: Heat oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Once the oil is hot, add the kababs in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and cooked through.
  6. Serve: Remove the kababs from the pan and drain excess oil on a paper towel. Serve hot with naan, chutney, or yogurt.

Enjoy these flavorful Chicken Chapli Kababs as a delightful appetizer or a main course with your favorite side dishes!
