CANDY APPLES

Candy Apples are a classic fall treat with a crisp, sweet coating that gives way to the fresh and juicy apple inside. Perfect for Halloween, fall festivals, or as a fun dessert, these candy apples are easy to make and can be customized with your favorite colors and flavors.

Ingredients:

  • 6 small to medium-sized apples (Granny Smith, Gala, or Honeycrisp work well)
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • ¾ cup water
  • ½ cup light corn syrup
  • ½ teaspoon red food coloring (or any color of your choice)
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
  • Candy apple sticks or wooden skewers
  • Parchment paper or a silicone baking mat

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the apples:
    • Wash and thoroughly dry the apples to remove any wax. Insert candy apple sticks or wooden skewers into the top of each apple. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat, and lightly grease it to prevent sticking.
  2. Make the candy coating:
    • In a medium saucepan, combine the sugar, water, and corn syrup. Stir gently to combine and place over medium-high heat. Attach a candy thermometer to the side of the pan and bring the mixture to a boil.
    • Without stirring, let the mixture cook until it reaches 300°F (150°C) on the candy thermometer, which is the hard crack stage (this usually takes about 10-12 minutes).
  3. Add the color and flavor:
    • Once the candy mixture reaches 300°F, remove it from the heat. Stir in the red food coloring and vanilla extract (if using) until well combined.
  4. Dip the apples:
    • Working quickly and carefully, dip each apple into the hot candy mixture, tilting the pan if needed to coat the entire apple. Twirl the apple to allow any excess candy to drip off, then place the apple on the prepared baking sheet.
  5. Cool and serve:
    • Let the candy-coated apples cool completely at room temperature until the candy hardens (about 10-15 minutes). Once cooled, they are ready to enjoy!

Optional Decorations:

  • Roll the freshly dipped apples in toppings like crushed nuts, sprinkles, or shredded coconut for extra flavor and texture.
  • Use different food colorings for a variety of fun candy apple colors.

Enjoy these beautiful, shiny Candy Apples for a fun and festive treat that’s perfect for any fall gathering or celebration!
