Butter Garlic Naan

Butter Garlic Naan is a soft, pillowy flatbread that’s perfect for scooping up curries, sauces, or simply enjoying on its own. Butter Garlic Naan

Ingredients:

  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/2 cup warm water (110°F)
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup plain yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons fresh cilantro, chopped (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Activate the Yeast:
    • In a small bowl, combine the warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. Make the Dough:
    • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour and salt. Stir in the yogurt, olive oil, and the activated yeast mixture. Mix until a sticky dough forms.
    • Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1-1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
  3. Prepare the Garlic Butter:
    • While the dough is rising, melt the butter in a small saucepan over low heat. Add the minced garlic and cook for 1-2 minutes until fragrant. Remove from heat and set aside.
  4. Shape and Cook the Naan:
    • Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 6-8 equal portions. Roll each portion into a ball, then use a rolling pin to flatten them into oval shapes, about 1/4 inch thick.
    • Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium-high heat. Place one naan on the skillet and cook for about 1-2 minutes, or until bubbles form on the surface. Flip and cook the other side for another minute or until golden brown spots appear. Repeat with the remaining dough.
  5. Brush with Garlic Butter:
    • As soon as the naan is done cooking, brush it generously with the garlic butter. Sprinkle with chopped cilantro if desired.
