Bourbon Caramel Sauce

  • 1 cup granulated sugar

Instructions:

  1. Melt the sugar: In a medium saucepan, combine the sugar and water over medium heat. Stir occasionally until the sugar dissolves, then stop stirring and let it simmer. Cook until the mixture turns a deep amber color, swirling the pan occasionally to ensure even caramelization, about 8–10 minutes.
  2. Add the butter: Once the sugar has reached a deep amber color, carefully add the butter pieces. The mixture will bubble vigorously, so be cautious. Stir the butter into the caramel until fully melted and combined.
  3. Add the cream: Slowly pour in the heavy cream while continuing to stir. The caramel will bubble up again, but keep stirring until smooth.
  4. Add the bourbon and vanilla: Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the bourbon, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt. Mix until the sauce is smooth and glossy.
  5. Cool: Allow the sauce to cool for a few minutes before using. It will thicken as it cools. Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to two weeks. Reheat gently before serving if needed.
