Bok Choy

Bok Choy Stir-Fry is a quick, healthy, and flavorful dish that highlights the crisp texture and mild, slightly sweet flavor of bok choy. This leafy green vegetable is a staple in Asian cuisine and can be easily transformed into a delicious side dish with minimal ingredients. Stir-frying bok choy with garlic, soy sauce, and a touch of sesame oil brings out its natural sweetness while adding a savory, umami-rich flavor. It’s a perfect accompaniment to any meal, especially when served with rice or noodles.

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb bok choy (baby bok choy or regular), cleaned and halved or quartered lengthwise
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce (optional)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Sesame seeds, for garnish (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
  2. Add the minced garlic and stir-fry for about 30 seconds, until fragrant.
  3. Add the bok choy to the skillet, stirring frequently for about 3-4 minutes, or until the leaves start to wilt and the stems become tender but still crisp.
  4. Drizzle in the soy sauce, sesame oil, and oyster sauce (if using). Toss to coat the bok choy evenly and season with salt and pepper to taste.
  5. Cook for another 1-2 minutes, allowing the flavors to combine, then remove from heat.
  6. Transfer the bok choy to a serving dish and garnish with sesame seeds if desired.
