  • 1 1/2 pounds ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon oregano
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 (15-ounce) can diced tomatoes
  • 1 (15-ounce) can kidney beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 (15-ounce) can black beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 cup barbecue sauce
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • Optional toppings: shredded cheese, sour cream, chopped green onions, jalapeños

Instructions:

  1. Sauté Aromatics: In a large pot or Dutch oven, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the diced onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional 30 seconds until fragrant.
  2. Cook the Beef: Add the ground beef to the pot, breaking it up with a spoon. Cook until browned, about 8-10 minutes. Drain any excess fat if necessary.
  3. Season the Chili: Stir in the chili powder, smoked paprika, cumin, oregano, cayenne pepper (if using), salt, and pepper. Cook for 1-2 minutes to toast the spices.
  4. Add the Ingredients: Add the diced tomatoes, kidney beans, black beans, barbecue sauce, beef broth, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, and apple cider vinegar. Stir to combine.
  5. Simmer the Chili: Bring the chili to a simmer, then reduce the heat to low. Cover and let it cook for 30-40 minutes, stirring occasionally, to allow the flavors to meld together.
  6. Adjust Seasoning and Serve: Taste the chili and adjust the seasoning as needed. Serve hot with your favorite toppings such as shredded cheese, sour cream, chopped green onions, or jalapeños.
