Apple Pear Pie

Apple Pear Pie is a delightful twist on the classic apple pie, blending the sweetness of ripe pears with the tartness of crisp apples for a perfectly balanced dessert. The combination of these two fruits, encased in a buttery, flaky crust, creates a pie that’s both familiar and refreshingly different. The addition of warm spices like cinnamon and nutmeg enhances the natural flavors, making each bite a comforting treat. This pie is ideal for the fall season when apples and pears are at their peak, but it’s delicious any time of the year. Serve it warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, and you’ll have a dessert that’s sure to impress.

Ingredients:

  • 1 pie crust (store-bought or homemade, enough for top and bottom)
  • 3 medium apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 3 medium pears, peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • 1 tablespoon coarse sugar (optional, for sprinkling)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples and pears with the granulated sugar, brown sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and flour. Toss until the fruit is evenly coated.
  3. Roll out one half of the pie crust and fit it into a 9-inch pie dish, allowing the excess dough to hang over the edges.
  4. Pour the fruit mixture into the pie crust, spreading it out evenly. Dot the top of the filling with the small pieces of butter.
  5. Roll out the second half of the pie crust and place it over the filling. Trim the excess dough and crimp the edges to seal. Cut a few small slits in the top crust to allow steam to escape.
  6. Brush the top crust with the beaten egg and sprinkle with coarse sugar if desired.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 45-55 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbly.
  8. Remove the pie from the oven and allow it to cool on a wire rack for at least 2 hours before serving.

Serve your Apple Pear Pie warm or at room temperature, and enjoy the perfect blend of sweet and tart flavors!
