Apple Cider Donuts are the ultimate fall treat, filled with the warm flavors of cinnamon, nutmeg, and sweet apple cider. These donuts are soft, tender, and perfectly spiced, with a subtle apple flavor that comes from reducing fresh apple cider to concentrate its taste. Coated in cinnamon sugar, they offer the perfect balance of sweetness and spice. Whether baked or fried, these homemade donuts are a delicious way to celebrate the season and pair beautifully with a cup of hot cider or coffee.

Ingredients:

  • 1 ½ cups apple cider
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • ½ tsp ground nutmeg
  • ¼ tsp ground cloves
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • â…” cup sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • ½ cup buttermilk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

For the Cinnamon Sugar Coating:

  • ½ cup sugar
  • 1 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • 3 tbsp melted butter (for brushing)

Instructions:

  1. Reduce the apple cider: In a small saucepan, bring the apple cider to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for 10-15 minutes until it reduces to about ½ cup. Set aside to cool.
  2. Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a donut pan (or prepare oil for frying if you prefer fried donuts).
  3. Mix the dry ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and salt.
  4. Mix the wet ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the melted butter, sugar, eggs, buttermilk, vanilla extract, and the reduced apple cider until smooth.
  5. Combine the mixtures: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, stirring until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
  6. Fill the donut pan: Spoon the batter into a piping bag or a zip-top bag with the corner snipped off, and pipe the batter into the prepared donut pan, filling each cavity about ¾ full.
  7. Bake: Bake the donuts for 10-12 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. If frying, heat oil to 350°F and fry for 1-2 minutes per side until golden brown.
  8. Coat the donuts: While the donuts are still warm, brush them with melted butter and toss them in the cinnamon sugar mixture until evenly coated.

Enjoy these soft, spiced Apple Cider Donuts warm, perfect for fall mornings or as a delightful snack any time of day!
