Stuffed Banana Peppers

Stuffed Banana Peppers are a delightful and colorful dish, perfect for appetizers or as a side. This recipe features mild to medium heat banana peppers, which are hollowed out and filled with a savory mixture of cheeses, herbs, and optional sausage or ground meat. The stuffing often includes a blend of cream cheese and mozzarella or parmesan, giving the peppers a creamy, melty texture when baked. This dish is not only visually appealing but also packs a punch of flavors that can be customized to your taste, making it a hit at any gathering or meal.

Ingredients:

  • 12 banana peppers, tops cut off and seeded
  • 1 cup cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 pound ground sausage or ground beef, cooked and drained (optional)
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped fresh parsley or basil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Olive oil for drizzling
  • Marinara sauce for serving (optional)

Directions:

  1. Preheat the Oven and Prepare Peppers:
    • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Carefully cut the tops off the banana peppers and remove the seeds. If the peppers are very long, you can also slice them in half lengthwise to make them easier to fill and eat. Set aside.
  2. Prepare the Filling:
    • In a bowl, combine the cream cheese, Parmesan cheese, mozzarella cheese, cooked sausage (if using), parsley or basil, garlic, salt, and pepper. Mix until all the ingredients are well incorporated.
  3. Stuff the Peppers:
    • Spoon the cheese mixture into each pepper, pressing down gently to ensure the peppers are well-stuffed. If you have cut the peppers in half lengthwise, lay them on a baking sheet with the cheese facing up.
  4. Bake the Peppers:
    • Arrange the stuffed peppers on a baking sheet. Drizzle with a little olive oil over the top to help them roast nicely. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the peppers are tender and the cheese is bubbly and slightly golden.
  5. Serve:
    • Serve the stuffed banana peppers hot, optionally with marinara sauce on the side for dipping. They can be garnished with additional fresh herbs or a sprinkle of grated cheese if desired.

Stuffed Banana Peppers are a versatile and easy-to-make dish that can be adapted to include a variety of fillings and spices. Whether served as a standalone snack or alongside a main course, these peppers are sure to delight anyone looking for a cheesy, comforting treat with just the right amount of spice.
