Ingredients
- 1 lb fresh jalapeños, sliced into thin rounds
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 1 cup apple cider vinegar
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1/4 tsp turmeric
- 1/4 tsp celery seed
- 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper (optional, for extra heat)
Instructions
- Prepare the Jalapeños:
- Wash the jalapeños and slice them into thin rounds, discarding the stems. Wear gloves to avoid irritation from the spicy oils.
- Make the Syrup:
- In a medium saucepan, combine sugar, apple cider vinegar, garlic powder, turmeric, celery seed, and cayenne pepper (if using). Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring occasionally until the sugar dissolves and the mixture forms a thick syrup.
- Cook the Jalapeños:
- Add the sliced jalapeños to the syrup and reduce the heat to low. Simmer for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the jalapeños are slightly softened but still retain their shape.
- Jar the Jalapeños:
- Using a slotted spoon, transfer the jalapeños to sterilized jars, packing them tightly. Pour the hot syrup over the jalapeños, leaving about 1/4 inch of headspace. Seal the jars with lids.
- Cool and Store:
- Allow the jars to cool to room temperature before storing them in the refrigerator. For best flavor, let the candied jalapeños sit for at least a week before using to allow the flavors to meld.
