Bacon Wrapped Figs

Bacon-wrapped figs are an irresistible appetizer that combines the natural sweetness of figs with the savory, smoky flavor of bacon. This dish is a delightful blend of textures and flavors, perfect for any gathering or special occasion. The figs become tender and jammy as they bake, while the bacon crisps up, creating a mouthwatering contrast. A touch of honey and a sprinkle of goat cheese or blue cheese add an extra layer of richness and a hint of creaminess. These bite-sized treats are easy to prepare and sure to impress guests with their elegant simplicity.

Ingredients:

  • 12 fresh figs (or dried if fresh are unavailable)
  • 12 slices of thin-cut bacon
  • 3 oz goat cheese or blue cheese (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • Toothpicks
  • Fresh thyme or rosemary for garnish (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the figs: If using fresh figs, wash and pat them dry. Cut a small slit in each fig and gently stuff with a bit of goat cheese or blue cheese, if desired. This step adds a creamy, tangy contrast but can be skipped for a simpler preparation.
  2. Wrap with bacon: Take a slice of bacon and wrap it tightly around each fig, securing with a toothpick. If the bacon slices are long, you can cut them in half to avoid excessive overlapping.
  3. Arrange and bake: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Arrange the bacon-wrapped figs on a parchment-lined baking sheet, making sure they are evenly spaced.
  4. Bake until crispy: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for about 15-20 minutes, or until the bacon is crispy and the figs are tender. Halfway through, you may want to flip the figs to ensure even cooking.
  5. Finish with honey: Once out of the oven, drizzle the bacon-wrapped figs with a light touch of honey for added sweetness. Garnish with fresh thyme or rosemary if using.
  6. Serve warm: Transfer the figs to a serving platter and enjoy them warm, as they are at their best when fresh out of the oven.

Tips:

  • Cheese variations: For a different twist, try cream cheese, brie, or mascarpone instead of goat cheese.
  • Honey substitution: A balsamic glaze also works beautifully if you prefer a more tangy finish.

These bacon-wrapped figs are a delightful balance of sweet and savory flavors, perfect for a holiday spread, dinner party, or intimate gathering.
