Fish Tikka

Fish Tikka is a flavorful and aromatic Indian dish made with tender pieces of fish marinated in a vibrant blend of yogurt, spices, and herbs, then grilled or baked to perfection. The marinade, rich in flavors from cumin, coriander, turmeric, and garam masala, gives the fish a deliciously tangy and spicy kick, while the cooking process leaves the fish succulent with a slightly smoky char. This dish is perfect as an appetizer or a main course, served with fresh naan, rice, or a tangy chutney. Fish tikka is a healthy, protein-rich dish that’s packed with bold flavors and easy to make at home.

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb firm white fish (such as cod, tilapia, or halibut), cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1/2 cup plain yogurt
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp ground coriander
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp paprika (for color)
  • 1 tsp garam masala
  • 1/2 tsp chili powder (adjust to taste)
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  • Fresh cilantro for garnish
  • Lemon wedges for serving

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Marinade: In a large bowl, whisk together the yogurt, lemon juice, ginger-garlic paste, cumin, coriander, turmeric, paprika, garam masala, chili powder, salt, and vegetable oil until well combined.
  2. Marinate the Fish: Add the fish pieces to the marinade, ensuring each piece is fully coated. Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, or up to 2 hours for more flavor.
  3. Preheat the Grill or Oven: If grilling, preheat the grill to medium-high heat. If using an oven, preheat to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper or foil.
  4. Cook the Fish: If grilling, thread the marinated fish pieces onto skewers and grill for 6-8 minutes, turning occasionally, until the fish is cooked through and slightly charred. If baking, place the fish pieces on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the fish flakes easily with a fork.
  5. Garnish and Serve: Transfer the fish tikka to a serving platter and garnish with fresh cilantro and lemon wedges. Serve hot with naan, rice, or a side of mint chutney.

Enjoy the delicious, bold flavors of this Fish Tikka, perfect for any occasion!
