This homemade lumpia recipe brings the classic taste of Filipino street food into your kitchen, offering a delicious bite-sized treat that everyone will love.

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb ground pork (or chicken)
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 small carrot, julienned or grated
  • 1/2 cup cabbage, finely shredded
  • 1/4 cup green onions, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • Lumpia wrappers (available in Asian grocery stores)
  • Oil for frying

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Filling:
    • Heat a little oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the chopped onions and minced garlic, and sauté until fragrant and soft.
    • Add the ground pork (or chicken) to the skillet and cook until browned and fully cooked through, breaking it apart with a spoon.
    • Stir in the carrot, cabbage, and green onions. Cook until the vegetables are softened, about 5 minutes.
    • Season the mixture with soy sauce, oyster sauce, black pepper, and salt. Mix well and adjust seasoning to taste.
    • Remove from heat and let the filling cool completely.
  2. Assemble the Lumpia:
    • Lay a lumpia wrapper on a clean surface. Place about 1 tablespoon of filling near one corner of the wrapper.
    • Fold the wrapper over the filling, tuck in the sides, and continue rolling tightly until you reach the other end. Dab a little water on the edge of the wrapper to seal it.
    • Repeat the process until all the filling is used.
  3. Fry the Lumpia:
    • Heat oil in a deep skillet or fryer over medium-high heat. Once the oil is hot, carefully add the lumpia in batches.
    • Fry until the lumpia are golden brown and crispy, turning occasionally to ensure even cooking, about 3-5 minutes.
    • Remove the lumpia from the oil and drain on paper towels.
  4. Serve:
    • Serve hot with sweet chili sauce or vinegar dipping sauce.

Enjoy your homemade lumpia as a tasty appetizer or snack!
